What is an Insulated Glass Unit (IGU)?
An Insulated Glass Unit (IGU) is made up of two or more panes of glass separated by a spacer bar and sealed around the edges to create an insulating cavity. This cavity is filled with air or an inert gas such as argon, which slows the transfer of heat and helps keep interiors warmer in winter and cooler in summer.
Commonly known as double glazing, IGUs significantly improve thermal performance compared with single glazing, reduce condensation, and help lower noise transfer. By combining different glass types, spacer systems, and coatings, each unit can be tailored to meet a wide range of thermal, acoustic, safety, and solar control requirements.
